The Centrefire Section holds a shooting competition on the 2nd Sunday of each month. In the past, this match has been totally dedicated to benchrest shooting. The club has decided to change the nature of the match to appeal to a wider audience.
We are not going abandon our benchrest roots but will expand the types of targets that we use to include paper targets at 100 yards for score and group. Electronic targets at 300 yards and 600 Yards and Club supplied and approved steel targets at 400 and 500 yards.
In an effort to keep costs down, we will offer participants the opportunity to pay for each stage individually.
We will have 4 stages 100 yards, 300 yards, 600 yards and the steel stage.
Each stage will cost $10 dollars to a maximum of $30 for all 4 stages.
Recognizing the high cost of ammunition, round counts will be reduced to approximately 10 plus sighters per stage but with the option to shoot more if desired.
For the steel stage we will shoot what we will call a 55 Blackjack the stage will be similar to Eric Cortina’s 500 yard Blackjack challenge, but with a twist.
We will have a dedicated position to shoot at steel either from the bench or prone and to make the competition fair, we will have 2 classes, an Open class for competition rifles and a Sporter class reserved for rifles that weigh under 12 pounds with a barrel muzzle diameter of .82 inches or less and are shot off a bipod or a bag and not an F Class or Benchrest front rest.
This may change as we learn what type of equipment people will bring to the match.
New shooters are very welcome there are plenty of experienced shooters all willing to help and offer advice.
It is a thrill to see your first contact with a target 600 yards away.
Please consider coming out to shoot or even just to watch.
It is our intention to hold a 2-day competition in April with shooters from other clubs competing for an Island long range championship.
Hopefully we will have shooters from our club ready to compete and members who would like to volunteer to help manage the match.
