Section – Smallbore

Junior Smallbore Rifle shooting is on Tuesday nights 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Adult Smallbore Rifle shooting is on Wednesday night, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm, ladies no range fee.

Smallbore (22) Rifles are shot both Indoors and Outdoors at the Campbell River Club. We use a variety of targets and types of guns to cover all areas from beginners to Olympic Type shooting.

The Club has a very active Junior Program (12 – 18) with certified Coaches that work with the young shooters to teach them Gun Safety and the basics of proper shooting techniques. The young shooters can either compete against themselves (personal bests) or can enter competitions hosted by the club or at other clubs in the Province. The social side of shooting is important to these young people, so every effort is made to be sure that after Safety is satisfied, fun comes next.

Typical High Level Competition Air Rifle

Shooters can move from beginner to Provincial level competition then on to National and International levels as their abilities and interest grows. We have both Junior and Senior shooters on the National Smallbore Team at this time and a number of Juniors are on the B.C. Junior Team where they receive coaching and some extra funding as they progress to National level competition ability.

Competition and fun shooting events are shot at 20 Yards indoors and 50 Metres outdoors in the Prone, Kneeling and Standing positions. Shooters are placed in classes based on age and ability (previous scores). The classification system assures that the thrill of winning is available to everyone.

The Smallbore section also shoots Air Rifles at targets set at 10 Metres distance with the guns being .177 caliber. The 10 ring has a diameter approximately the same as a pin head so great skill is required to reach the highest level. This sport is rapidly becoming more popular as people learn that these precision Air or CO2 powered guns are the most accurate of all firearms. This is an Olympic sport with classes for Juniors and Ladies along with the open events.

The skills required for Air Rifle shooting closely resemble those required for 22 shooting so many athletes use the air rifle as an indoor Winter sport to practice for the outdoor seasons.

The club has many people shooting Air Rifle on a regular basis so if you would like to give it a try, come out on Tuesday night and we can arrange for you to borrow a gun.

Adult (over 18) Smallbore night is Wednesday nights (7:00 pm – 9:00 pm) at the indoor range and Tuesday night is Junior night (7:00 pm – 8:30 pm). Come out and give Smallbore shooting a try. We have Club guns for people to use and range fees are only $4.00 per night along with your membership. If you want to learn gun safety, shoot for fun, improve your hunting skills or become a serious competitor, we can help at any level. We have shooters from beginners to Olympians taking part.

All events are listed on the CRGC Calendar.
